Problem pieces. Robert Dawson and Richard Slee

The Musée Ariana presents in this show a panoply of artworks, sometimes unsettling, often filled with humour which stir up preconceived ideas and offer an original perspective on the world.
Robert Dawson and Richard Slee take an eccentric look at contemporary realities. Though their ceramic expressions differ considerably, both artists constantly question everyday life, challenging the commonplace and shaking up conventions. They have long drawn their inspiration from the history of ceramics and decorative art, without ever resorting to either nostalgia or aestheticism. While the work of both artists centres on subverting found objects and/or motifs, for this exhibition Robert Dawson has delved into the museum’s collections and its building.
